It’s a great question.
The simple answer is that every property is different.
Rather than charging every homeowner the same amount, I look at the work your property actually requires. That helps me provide a price that’s fair to you and allows me to maintain a consistent level of service.
Here are the main things I look at when pricing a lawn.
1. Lawn Size
The size of your lawn is one of the biggest factors.
Generally speaking, larger lawns take more time to mow, trim, and clean up than smaller lawns.
That doesn’t necessarily mean every large lawn is expensive or every small lawn is inexpensive, but size is an important starting point.
2. Property Layout
Two properties can be exactly the same size and require very different amounts of work.
For example:
- One yard may be wide open with very few obstacles.
- Another may have fences, flower beds, trees, play equipment, retaining walls, or narrow gates.
The more detail work required, the more time it typically takes.
3. Terrain
Flat lawns are generally quicker to maintain than steep or uneven properties.
Hills require more time, more attention, and can be harder on equipment.
4. String Trimming
After mowing, areas around fences, trees, landscaping, mailboxes, and other obstacles usually need to be trimmed.
The more trimming your property requires, the more time each visit takes.
5. Edging and Cleanup
Every property is finished by cleaning up hard surfaces.
Some homes also require additional edging to maintain clean borders along sidewalks and driveways.
These finishing touches help your lawn look complete.
6. Accessibility
Simple things like narrow gates, backyard access, steep driveways, or limited parking can affect how efficiently a property can be maintained.
7. Current Condition
If a lawn has been maintained regularly, it’s often quicker to service.
If it’s significantly overgrown, the first visit may require additional time and effort before regular maintenance can begin.
Why We Don’t Give Every Home the Same Price
Some companies advertise one flat price for every lawn.
While that sounds simple, it often means someone ends up paying too much—or the company isn’t charging enough for more complex properties.
